Jesus Heals the Blind Man

Jesus heals the blind man in the Gospel of John, chapter 9.

But what does Jesus healing the blind man disclose to us about how first century Jewish viewed chronic illnesses, for his disciples asked whose sin cause this illness -- the blind man's or his parents.

Jesus, tells his disciples that God allowed him to be ill so that God can perform something greater through him.

And, when Jesus heals the blind man, he doesn't just speak and the man is healed but he uses his own spit and dirt. Why?

I love the revelation that John is speaking of Judeans cf Nazarenes, the tension that exists all over the world between the language, belief & culture (a sad competition) between capital & provincial cities, between capital cities of different (greater & lesser) states, nations and empires. A condescension from the ones ‘more educated’ who believe they ‘see’, who won’t be learning any time soon from anyone expressing anything outside of their own ‘lofty perceptions’. This passage continues the study of communication in John 4 : Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman.

In order for the discussion to succeed, there are conditions:
• Not blaming each other, not looking for the guilty.
(Who is guilty? His mother? His father? Or he himself who was born blind?)
• But look for the best solution that suits God's will to overcome it (God's glory must be revealed for this person)

Communication will not succeed (fail) if
• there's no trust each other,
• or want to defend your own mind, like the Pharisees when talking to the blind healed.
• Or if there is fear so people don't dare to be honest. Like the blind parents who were called as witnesses, they did not dare to tell the truth because they were afraid of the Pharisees.

Then the discussion failed, the Pharisees did not change their mind that the guy was true who were blind from birth.
The Pharisess did not understand that Jesus who healed him on the Sabbath was not breaking the Sabbath law but was demonstrating that He was the God who created humans from clay.

For me, the Scriptures not only teach true faith in Jesus, the way of life in Jesus, but also teach the way of life in this world.
