I started around unlimited and quit by 5th edition. Magic started getting really big and forced players to rebuy all the cards every year or so. The way to play the game became "only use the new cards!" which made everything I bought useless. What an amazing backstabbing incredible marketing idea that totally worked.

I remember those days very well. Started in '98 and Urza's Saga had just been released. I still have my first rare I got in my first pack ever that I had to beg my dad to buy me, Lightning Dragon. I love showing it to my friends that are younger and telling them very similar stories to this. I was fortunate enough to only have my cards stolen once. Thanks for the story.

Great video man! Love these stories. I'm a dad and just got into Magic with my 2 boys last year. FNM has become a special thing for us. Hearing these sorts of stories reinforces how great this game is (at the LGS level)
