What Makes Mozart So Special? A Pianist’s Perspective

There are many aspects of Mozart’s writing that are truly brilliant. Today we are going to bring up just one point which is something I’m sure you’ve heard but you may not be familiar with the term; it’s called “alberti bass”. What is alberti bass?

Mozart is amazing because if you take any of his best works and change it just a little bit, it’s not as good as the original. Every single note seems to be placed perfectly within the overall composition.

I asked my guitar tutor of there was anyone who came close to the genius of Mozart, and he said the only thing that has come reasonably close was the Beatles. However, he said that their influence is was only about a 10th of what Mozart’s.

I think what makes mozarts works beautiful is his beautiful melodies and his natural harmony. Even his complex harmony no matter how chromatic stays close to tonality.

Alberti bass can actually be very cliche but Mozart had the ability to not overuse it and integrate interesting harmonies when Alberti bass is going.
