I almost want to take the spring out lol. Its way harder to push down on than a regular tamp. I thought it would be easier.

Hi, are you meant to press the handle all the way down to touch the base or just as much as you can until the handle goes back up? I have one and trying to figure out how far to press. I’m using the 10kg spring.

I had 3 springs with mine. Assumed you just changed the outer spring but after watching this I belief this is just the force for levelling collar?

Hey. You are supposed to put the pin in the first hole, not the second one, so that you can put the Allen key in the second hole in case the shaft gets jammed. I assembled mine like your video and I got the main shaft so jammed, that I had to use pliers to open it and it scratched the hell out of the tamper base. Also, if you put the pin in the first hole, you are able to tamp deeper, not so shallow.

I don't think this tamper does what we think it does. In your test by virtue of having the scale under the clear basket you are measuring both the force applied to the grounds and basket and then just the basket once the inner plunger bottoms out on the collar. The tamp collar is resting on the basket rim and once full plunger distance is reached all additional force is transferred to the rim of the basket and that is what your scale is then measuring. In fact I don't think that the various plunger springs make any difference at all to the puck compression. I like that you have the clear basket and it would be interesting to see how deep each spring compresses the puck of exact same beans, grind, and dose with the only variable being the spring. Draw a level line for each on the basket after each one has tamped to the end of the plunger depth limit. The pucks compressed with more force should be shorter than those with less force, right? I don't think it's going to change though since there isn't any mechanism inside the top of the handle for the different spring pressure to change depth and depth will be consistently controlled by the collar. At least on the V4.

my portafilter basket is 58mm, does the NORMCORE V4 58.5mm size still fit ??

Are your scales here in kg or lbs out of interest? I've just got a white v4 tamper and even the lightest spring takes 35lbs of pressure before it bottoms out!

Great video. How do you easily remove the upper part? When I try, it only unscrew with the base.

please help. Mine came with two identical spring probably by mistake and I can figure out which one they are. looks like they both are 25lb or 30lb because they both weigh same. can you please tell me what's the weight for each spring?
