Appreciate you reacting to my request, guys. This album was the one right before dark side of the moon. This one and meddle transitioned Floyd from their earlier experimental, trippy music into their mind blowing run of dark side of the moon, wish you were here, animals, and the wall. If you do this whole album, you’ve got to do the first two songs together, Obscured By Clouds and When You’re In.

This song is the transition.

This is the exact point where Floyd’s sound changed from the Piper/Saucerful/Ummagumma sound to the later (Animals, DSotM, Wall, etc) sound.

Everybody always calls Meddle the album before Dark Side. Technically, this a soundtrack and it gets overlooked. But it has some great tracks. Free Four is pretty fun!

‘Obscured’ is a great album; gets overlooked because it followed the epic ‘Meddle’ record. Also under-appreciated because the hidden gems (‘Wot’s…Uh the Deal’, ‘Stay’) are tucked away in the midst of a lot of early-Floyd psychedelic jams (‘Obscured’s’ jams are some of my fave for smokin’😉) Same goes for previous albums ‘Atom Heart Mother’(check ‘Fat Old Sun’ and ‘If’)
and ‘More’ (‘Green is The Colour’ and ‘Cymbeline’) where classic Floyd ballads are dotted throughout the record’s longer instrumentals.
As a guitar player I generally don’t transcribe solos note-for-note but this is one I absolutely had to (Zep’s ‘The Rover’ is another). It’s a quintessential example of Gilmour’s amazing articulation, with those incredible bends and slides that take simple melodic lines and makes them soar. Also one of his best vocals.
This song is based on a book by the same name.
Try ‘Wot’s…Uh the Deal’ next. One of the rock best ballads ever.

As you dive into this album, keep in mind that it was completely written and recorded in about 2 weeks while they were already working on Dark Side of the Moon (this album is a film soundtrack they were commissioned to write by director Barbet Schroeder for his film "La Vallee".) It's not a masterpiece, but it's pretty damned amazing for what was essentially a throwaway album for them. And for my money, "Burning Bridges" and "Mudmen" are two of the best tracks they ever laid down.

My favorite Floyd album. They are in a " rock " groove throughout this whole album. I found this album in a used record store near Ohio State campus, took it home and fell in love.🕊💖🎸
