My childhood was partly spent living pretty similarly to this in the Yukon Territory, at the time it didn’t seem to out of the ordinary to me it was just how we lived. We had a copy of One Mans Wilderness back then and I loved the pictures in that book as his cabin looked so cozy and I could look out our windows and see similar scenery and weather.

Bob has done good work putting together these documentaries. I bought the two Alone in the Wilderness DVD. Well worth it.
I watch them every once in a while. I don't tire of seeing what Dick was able to accomplish.

I made a comment over 3 years ago and got several responses plus lots of thumbs up 👍. Looking back I was told if you r always trying to get the perfect picture you end up missing a lot special moments. So true I have witnessed the porcupine Caribou herd over 2 seasons when stationed at Bar 1 or Komakuk Beach Dewline site along with Wolves, Grizzly Bears, Arctic Foxes, Wolverine Sandhill Cranes, Falcons, Beluga Whales and Ravens plus tons of migratory birds. Point is not a lot of pics but a lifetime of memories. Dick made movies but enjoyed priceless interactions with nature which he shared unknowingly with millions. A life well lived without worrying about 401 k, rrsp maple 🍁 beautiful scenery has no price.

this man was one of the first people that came into a real civilization and send F that going back to the way it was in the frontier days admired this man watch this video in jail and had every single person in my cell during Super Bowl watching this instead of Super Bowl it was entirely incredible changed my entire life I'm now a professional woodworker and I must say God bless this man!

This man was so talented. I can't imagine building all the things he did and with the simplest of tools. That cabin looks as good as a prefab already made and put together. Glad he was able to live his dream and not get injured or attack by some animal.

These videos were incredible for me to watch in the first place. Then I saw this man feed a wild bird in his cabin while making stew and and realized this individual truly did live a miraculous and peaceful life out in the Alaskan Bush. Moreso than any of us will in modern society with all of our luxuries. No cell phones or wifi and there is only the sounds of nature... beautiful.

I must say I have found Dick Proenneke story very up lifting, I found a man who was at peace with his life.
