Dick teaches us among other things that there is a huge difference between alone and lonely.

I watch this every 4 or 5 months just to remind myself that you dont need a ton to be happy. Live simple, live in peace, live happy!

I commented on this video years ago, and my fascination never changed… 1 year ago today I decided to make the move up here to Alaska and have absolutely loved it. I will say, the long, dark, cold winter is tougher than expected. The fact he went all winter without seeing a single person amazed me. I still, to this day, watch his films all the time. Dick, you’re an inspiration to me!!

Dick was a hero for all those who long for peace in the wilderness. He was really the first vlogger. Dick's final request was that the park rangers would rake his beach. The park rangers to this day meticulously will rake his beach in honor of his last request. He actually would rake the beach in front of his cabin because he wanted it to look great and didnt' want any garbage on it. He could tell you what animals would walk on it and if people had walked on it. His videos and notes were priceless to those studying the animals and the area. Because of him, twin Lakes is one of the most popular and sought out places in Alaska. It's the mecca for campers, hikers and outdoorsmen. Whenever I get really stressed I love watching the dvd's and rereading his books. Thanks Dick; we will never forget you.

Mr Proenneke was the ultimate wood shop teacher, metal shop teacher, Scoutmaster and great all around car/truck/equipment mechanic.

Plus, he was kind and caring to other Humans and wildlife.

He was the ultimate man's man.

RIP.

I know I feel close to the lord when I'm in nature and when I go fishing. I find myself thanking God over and over again that I may be so blessed as to enjoy such a beautiful day.
