Ahead of the premiere of season 47, cast members Beck Bennett and Lauren Holt will be leaving the long-running sketch series Saturday Night Live. Beck Bennett and Lauren Holt have exited Saturday Night Live ahead of its 47th season. Premiering on October 2 on NBC, season 47 will begin with Owen Wilson as host and musical guest Kacey Musgraves. Other hosts include Ted Lasso star and SNL alum Jason Sudeikis, Kim Kardashian, and Rami Malek. But as a diverse and star-studded lineup of hosts prepare for the new season, questions remained about which cast members would be back. Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Pete Davidson have all indicated that they may not be back for the NBC series. In the case of Davidson, in particular, he’s been open about how the live show conflicts with his schedule. But now that the ensemble for SNL’s next outing has been confirmed, the departures might not be the ones that viewers anticipate. According to TV Line, Beck Bennett and Lauren Holt are leaving SNL ahead of season 47. Bennett, who joined the sketch staple in 2013, reflected on his exit in an Instagram post. He wrote, in part: “Thank you for eight years of remarkable people and incredible experiences that completely changed my life.” Lauren Holt, who joined the series last season as a featured player, will also not be returning. However, SNL vets McKinnon, Strong, Bryant, and Davidson will be back with the rest of the cast. They’ll split their time between the long-running live program and their other outside projects. Bennett has portrayed a wide variety of characters during his time on SNL, though he’s perhaps best known for his impersonations of Russian president Vladimir Putin and the former Vice President Mike Pence. He’s also appeared as a wide range of recognizable figures, offering comedic takes on everyone from Tom Brady to Elton John. As for Holt, she played a number of different characters during her time on the show. SNL will be adding three new featured players for the new season. They are Aristotle Athari, James Austin Johnson, and Sarah Sherman. Also, featured players Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman have been upped to repertory players. Although the loss of Bennett stings, particularly since he had such a knack for playing seemingly ordinary characters that gradually reveal themselves to be quite odd, it’s a positive that Saturday Night Live was able to retain much of its main cast for the upcoming season. Hopefully, the extra room to work on outside projects while still appearing on Saturday nights means that the stars of the variety show will continue to be a part of it for as long as they’d like.
