This animation made of painstaking sequential painting is a masterpiece in its own right. But the accompanying music, an early version of Echoes, is pure bliss in the form of sound. The later additions which turned the famous song into a multi-part epic are also wonderful, sure, but the echo ping theme with bass triplets and organ chords is the closest we'll ever hear to a colorful sonic image of a heart pulsing with love. This weep-inducing sweet fragment of music must be the child of Rick Wright, the shy Floydian to whom David Gilmour made justice bringing him back to the group and supporting him by other means in his later years. Gilmour himself, having nothing more to prove to anyone, got back to his blues roots in his solo oeuvre. Roger Waters kept more or less on the same path we would have taken PF into if he remained with the band, releasing more politically charged music. But he's now reconciled with the past: his latest album has some bits of musical ideas lifted from his former band's greatest classics.
