Ugly Sonic: From Hideous To VICTORIOUS

It has been 5 years since the Ugly Sonic design and trailer for Sonic movie 1 took the world by storm. Let's talk about how one of the franchise's lowest moments, ended up being a blessing in disguise!

I was in my senior year in high school when the trailer came out. I was disgusted and disappointed with that ugly design that was 100% not sonic. I was happy that Jeff Fowler brought Tyson Hysse in to fix the design and sonic became adorable.

I was in my freshman year of high school when I watched that trailer, and when I saw that design I was like “Yep. This is it. This is when Sonic dies”. Pre-Twitter btw 😅

And when the redesign happened I was, of course, VERY happy. Like he actually looked SONIC, and no matter if the movie was bad (which it wasn’t) I knew I HAD to watch it. It’s still insane to me how everything had rode in that redesign and that we would probably have been in the exact opposite of the position we’re in today if our boy never got his makeover.

As someone who has a very open-mind and creative freedom oriented thoughts when it comes to art, i was still willing to give the movie and design a chance despite the clear flaws.
But, the fact they went ahead and listened to the criticism, and delayed the movie to redesign Sonic, and the result was arguably one of the best Sonic designs of all time is so amazing! Major props to Paramount and the creative team!

They should just release the original Cut of the Sonic Movie on Paramount+!

I don't truly remember but, I was in utter sadness when that popped up online. I remember thinking how bad it was for Jim Carrey to be laughed at for being in it. It was so bad for us Sonic fans. It was a dark time. Then the miracle happened. I was so happy, then when the redesign trailer came, I was screaming my head off. I couldn't go back to sleep cause of how early it came out. I remember the support the movie got afterwards. I was super happy, then we got Tails as an end credit scene. Remember when that was the biggest spoiler. Then all of Sonic 2 stuff! With knuckles and leaks!Now we're getting a 3rd installment with Shadow! What a time to live in. I never want to go back to those dark times.
