Girls in my school keep on telling other people they have depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder and people need to worry about their condition. These illnesses are a serious matter and I hate the fact that they didn't take it seriously. There are other people in the world that actually have mental illness and they are the ones that really need help.

Sorry, I felt like I should talk about it here.

I have intense highs where I'm suddenly super happy with my body (actually even enough to eat properly and not feel bad afterwards), happy, motivated, able to multitask and have so many ideas at the same time. But a few days later, or even just the next day, I feel extremely down and hate myself, I feel depressed and overthink everything that happened in my past.
I'm not sure if I just have intense mood swings or some sort of disorder, but I also don't want to talk about it with my parents...

The proportion is why I often tell my friends that what I have is depression. Bipolar disorder is much less understood.

I was misdiagnosed for 10 years: depression, anxiety, and ADHD. None of the medications worked and I kept persisting until I finally found the right doctor. I was properly diagnosed a few months ago with bipolar II with proper medication. It's important to educate ourselves and others and learn the symptoms. I really wish I had been diagnosed properly sooner, because antidepressants can make bipolar so so so much worse. Really messed me up for years.

Honestly I just sat here watching this knowing and having diagnosed manic depressive bipolar disorder, just to see what symptoms I have, and cross it off a list like “I have this, and this, not this” like some weird game. Although nice information to know

It’s ok- i’m starting to feel ok with depression. But i can’t tell this to my parents, only my friends.

I was misdiagnosed with depression as a child, and was given a medication which set off a serious manic episode. Seven years or so later, another doctor- despite mine and my family's concerns- prescribed that same medication. I had another episode and had to stop immediately.

Just this last year, a much more experienced mental health professional diagnosed me with Bipolar Disorder. Thank you for explaining some of the differences between the two illnesses.

As an auto racing fan, I know of 2 different drivers; One who suffers from Bipolar Disorder, & one who suffered from Depression. Both of these drivers were drivers who were suspended by the sanctioning body they raced in for substance abuse.

The driver who suffers from Bipolar Disorder wasn't diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder until after he was banned for life from that particular sanctioning body. He was originally misdiagnosed with ADHD at the age of *5.* After he was properly diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, things were way better for him. Though he doesn't race any more after a crash in a different racing series left him paralyzed, his mood has massively improved.

The driver who suffered from Depression tragically had a much worse fate. Though never banned for life this driver was suspended twice. The second one being controversial because it was alleged he was suspended for refusing to take a drug test. However the massively underreported truth was he had just suffered a concussion after a crash & the medics refused to do proper medical treatment to make sure he was ok, instead only caring about a "random" drug test... It was never known that this driver suffered from Depression, until after his death 2 & 1/2 years later... from a suicide.

The driver who succumbed to Depression changed my view completely on auto racing's drug policies & the people suspended because of them. I wish information like this was more widespread so more people can be educated from it so it can help people.

I used to be depressed but now I try to stay positive, but it gets hard when everyone tries to purposely make me feel bad, and it works. I'm trying to figure out what the deal is with myself, I know my mom is bipolar tho too.

Great explanation of Bipolar Disorder. I have Bipolar 2. My Dr misdiagnosed me with MDD when I was about 14, started treating me with Prozac and it caused me to rapid-cycle! Worst episode ever. I don’t often hear people talk about that aspect so it was good to hear. Thank you.
