At least it's better than Death on the Nile, right?

This movie asks the question: what if Scooby Doo was a Hercule Poirot murder mystery?

I find it quite amazing personally that Kenneth's least ambitious effort with his Hercule Poirot films ends up being the one I not only remember most, but genuinely was immersed in. "Murder on The Oriental Express" mainly traded on it's solid visuals and I generally find "Death on The Nile" to have gotten worse over time between too much noticeable CGI and it's effort to be more glossy distracting more than anything. This one was both level headed in design and hitting a better sense of the "Less is more" ideology.

Since nit-picking is the thing here at Cinema Sins, I have to point out that the chandelier falling was NOT part of the opening of Phantom of the Opera. That happens at the end of Act One. The opening of Phantom of the Opera features the chandelier rising from the stage to the ceiling, basically the opposite of what happened during A Haunting In Venice. One sin for you!

It took me 9 years and a cholecystectomy to get finally be able to start living again after my wife's death, so thank you for acknowledging that everyone's grief is different.

While not as good at the Orient Express, it is miles above the Nile movie previously. This one was a fun ride and I enjoyed it greatly.

While a falling body would have enough mass and velocity to be impaled on a marble statue, the same mass and velocity would also cause said marble to break at a fracture plane, assuming the body did not fall on a pyramidal structure.

I worked on this movie, and it was my first credited film. So I liked it.

First sin: Poirot is supposed to be Catholic. It's a big part of his Foreignness which is a big part of his character. It also informs his views on crime and psychology. Ignoring this in the context of seances and supposed hauntings is infuriating.
"I would welcome any proof of demons" oh ffs

The real mystery is how everyone didn't burn to death with all the irresponsible oil lamp safety.

Did anyone else come to the comments to find the future couple arguing about the marble hand impalement?

The origin of the French "happiness" joke comes from the wedding of the Princess Elizabeth to the guy she married (I want to say The Artist Formerly Known As Prince?)
Charles DeGaulle's wife made a toast to the princess that ended with "and I hope you find 'aPIness." Almost everyone at the reception did, too.
