him only selling one painting is actually a myth! there is evidence he sold more and was even gaining recognition among artists a few years before his death!

He cut part of his ear off because the woman he gifted it to had been in a horrible accident and became disfigured. She was also mistreated in the brothel and constantly stared at for her appearance and Van Gogh felt bad for her. So he cut part of his ear off and gave it to her as a way of saying "Look, now people can stare at both of us. Now you won't be alone." I've seen some people say this was creepy but Van Gogh was very mentally ill and most likely autistic, so to him it was just a normal kind gesture (sorry if I missed any details or got anything wrong, I heard about this a long time ago and I might be misremembering)

When he was younger, he was also a preacher. Everyday he would go to the ghettos and where poor people would live and talk about god. Many lives were saved. Then those people started to go to a nearby church but the people in the church did not like it.
To keep the story short, he felt betrayed and became very depressed. This is why he cut off his ear and started to paint.

My middle school art teacher loved the xmen and Vincent Van Gough. So he bought the poster of Wolverine on some comic cover where he cut off i think Cyclops' ear.

I recently went down a research rabithole about his death.
The popular story is that he shot himself, but that's actually just the story he told the people who tried to treat his wound. There's a very good chance he was covering for some local teenagers who shot him in the woods (likely on accident but who knows).

I studied art history at University, and one of our professors was from the Netherlands, a specialist in van Gogh who had written books about him.
He didn’t tell us about the lead paint. Could using those toxic pigments have led to van Gogh’s madness?

The last 1 actually wasnt his final painting. Theres a diffeent 1 that was his final. The field is the feild where he ended himself. He also wasn't mentally right and suffered from bipolar disorder and epilepsy
