Ukraine prepares for intensified Russian attacks as EU weighs membership bid • FRANCE 24 English

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky warned Sunday (June 19) that Russia was likely to intensify its “hostile activity” this week, as Kyiv awaits a historic decision from the European Union on its membership application. FRANCE 24's Senior reporter, Catherine Norris Trent, tells us more from Kyiv.

Being an EU candidate country is only the beginning of the long process. Ukraine will get an inventory of areas to conform to EU norms. The power grid is already connected. However, are the transmission lines the most efficient? My priority is rebuilding the key Ukrainian railroad network to EU standard gage. This can start now in the western 1/3RD of the Ukraine. It will be essential for the reconstruction process to occur. It will take a year to redo just 1 track on all 7 lines coming in from EU countries. This will allow for more grain transfer out points. It will also allow for more material coming in transfer points. It could take 5-7 years to redo every railroad line in the country and convert all rolling stock. This will speed reconstruction.

EU must take in consiseration that their people are number one and Ukraine number two .If not their gonverments will be viped out.EUs sanctions have backfired and hit EUs people hard.They will pay the price if they are not doing anything to ease the inflation and high prices.It is not enough to ease the poor people, it must do it for everyone or the gonverment is gone !

Zelinsky knows how to play the west. He is truly an Actor and comedian. At the same time the maniging director of this war America is fighting on the soil os Ukraine with his pepoe dying. It truly is a mess. To top it up Europe got played by both America and Ulraine. Macron is already paying the price for ignoring his own people an Jonhson is next. It will eventually get to everu country as the people and tax payers have been ignored. Each european is struggling due to all this emotional leaders that have no rational to lead a country
