I remember watching this as a kid and did not really understand what was going on. And now understanding it as a adult it really hits deep how sad this movie actually was. They need to make another Hulk movie with the same depth as the comics.

At 1:53 Bruce’s Dad says “That’s right, keep fighting, the more you fight, the more of you I take”. As a kid, I thought he was just talking about his super powers. But now as an adult who has had some traumatic experiences with an absent father, it makes much more sense. It wasn’t just about the power, it was Bruce’s life as a whole. This whole time Bruce was essentially held prisoner to trauma he experienced from his father. And the more energy Bruce gave to his father and those past memories, the more he was unable to experience the goodness of life around himself. So the more Bruce fights with these past traumas, the more it’s robs him of his livelihood and ability to experience a happy life.

This movie is so underrated it’s not even funny. People want to shit on it for the Jolly Green Giant Hulk CGI, but honestly it’s better than anything the MCU has put out in regards to Hulk. This is one of my personal favs.

The most accurate Hulk in cinema. Less of a superhero and more of an inevitable force of nature

What makes me enjoyed the ending more is the metaphor of how intense Bruce’s trauma, anger and hatred which becomes so unbearable to his father it ends up killing him. Speaks volume of how much he hated his father and I’m sure during the last of his father’s moments absorbing he sees and feels exactly why Bruce felt all these intense feelings. Kind of like a ‘fuck you’ to his father hence “You think you can live with it? Take it” and his father just couldn’t live with the immeasurable amount of anger and trauma he gave Bruce. It’s not that deep really but I absolutely adore not taking things as surface value

I don’t know if anyone has already said this in the comments, but this scene is powerful for a couple reasons. Obviously I think he wants the Hulk part of him to be taken away so he doesn’t have to live with that part of him anymore, but I also believe that because it shows his memories forming just before he screams ‘take it all’ that it also means he wants all the painful memories gone. Just an outstanding movie. Very underrated.

one of the most confusing fights from my childhood

The fact that hulk just gives it "all" and his dad dies from all that power. Just shows this hulk has infinite power

I knew as a kid it was because Hulk was basically a powerhouse, but rewatching it now it all makes MUCH more sense. “Take it all” to Absorption Man yelling “It’s not stopping! Take it back!” Realizing he can’t control that much power

This hulk really showed HULK from the comics and now I know why the other hulks seemed to be missing something

His power is fueled by his anger. He had literally so much hate for his father that the power he was giving him was too much for him to handle despite the dads ability was literally absorbing anything. Even without the nuke he probably would of exploded. The "Take it all" quote and the dads groans of pain gave me goosebumps when I first saw this.

I remember watching this movie as a kid and the part at 2:42 where he said "TAKE IT ALL" has been embedded into my memory since i first heard it. We felt his anger through the screen. Such a powerful line and a brilliant movie 👏

I've never seen a better depiction of Hulk's anger than the part that starts at 2:38

Probably one of the coolest most subversive fights in a superhero movie. You couldn’t predict how hulk was gonna defeat absorbing man until it happened.

That scene was badass "TAKE IT ALL!!!"

edit: and yes I have the dvd and it still holds up today, along with the original Spider-Man movies, the 2000's Marvel movies are my favorites

In my opinion, this was the most accurate iteration of the Hulk we’ve seen on screen. Not sure why this movie gets so much hate. Cinematography was excellent

Absorbing Man didn't account for the fact that he is taking all of Bruce's sorrow, pain and suffering as well.

2:40 Now THAT'S visual storytelling! All of his tragic memories coming back together like puzzle and formed Hulk. For better or worse, your past shapes who you are, you'll have to live with it, you can't throw them away, all you can do is try to be a better person and don't let them dictate you

This is right out of the comic book. So many films came from books originally, probably easier to do that...this masterpiece captures the essence of the HULK story...the girl and her father....his own father.. and his anger. The best HULK film, EVER.

Almost every early 2000's superhero movie feels like it's in the same universe

This fight scene truly exemplifies Hulk's power. The angrier he gets, the stronger he gets.
