6:07 Hookworm, a disease prevalent in developing nations in the tropics, was thought to have been eradicated from the US in the earlier part of the 20th century. But according to a recent study from the Baylor College of Tropical Medicine, it's making a comeback in rural Alabama where proper human waste disposal is hard to come by.

You think sewage parasites are bad? What about the distribution of sewage waste to farmlands? Same waste that contains Pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy waste, micro plastics, and thousands of chemicals. All back on your dinner plate.

He's way too hard on the e cig guy. If it helps out people and reduces violence in jail i don't see the problem.

I don't think it was appropriate of the interviewer to attack the man for making hard earned money. Point is, it was a good idea, whether intentions are lucrative. Money serves as an inspiration to ideas like these, why punish him for that?

Jailer saw a market for a product that benefits inmates and puts dollars in his pocket. Anyone else could have had the same idea. Stop manufacturing issues and news where there isn't any. Be happy for a guy who figured out a way to make his and his families
lives better.

I'm homeless going on five years without running g water or electric. In Connecticut. My best option is remaining this way or dealing with sleeping with people I don't want to for maybe a couch to sleep on and a shower. I can't deal with shelters or gym showers due to mental health issues. Last winter my limbs went numb/ in pain from the shivering. Last summer I got heat stroke twice. The us is not much better than these other places if you are disabled and poor. Especially if your disability is mental health.

I can sell weed to the inmates if the e-cig thing doesn't work out.

Holy crap! (No pun intended... Ok maybe a little) what the hell was going on at 8:34 to make that sewage water look like some living, black-goo alien monster from a sci-fi movie?

I’m “white” living in CA. I’ve had hookworm as a kid, my mother in law has and my little girl got it in school. I work but can’t enough due to health conditions in my gut. So we’re on govt healthcare. They don’t cover the medication that gets rid of them even in a four year old. We scraped up the money to get the medication but imagine those who can’t. This problem is way worse than people know. It needs more attention and help!

Senator 'Hookworm' Sessions spent 30 years in the Senate basically prolonging this epidemic. This was once very widespread in tropical USA and is thought to have caused the southern accent wherever it was prevalent.

You can tell by the tone of the voice and general demeanor of the jail guard that he developed the cigs with good intentions for the inmates and I bet the guards smoke them too. Hence all of his success... It came from a pure place.

I’d assume some folks should consider getting a designed sanitation plan together, form organized labor from local citizens, and start moving forward on a solution. Asking for assistance to improve your situation on the backs of the working class in the form of taxes would be a more difficult task in the long run than actually physically solving the problem

People living in poverty (many of us) can't afford to replace water pipes leaching lead or septic systems that work. Govt is happy to take our tax money though, gotta make those 1% tax cuts! I'm ashamed of my government. This is not the America I grew up believing in!

Mississippi is one of the top three poorest states in the U.S.. In 2014, 40.9% of the states revenue came from federal aid. Not be confused with individual dependence on federal aid like welfare. North Dakota actually has the highest depency on welfare. The actual government depends on the federal government in Mississippi to pay its bills. So those who want to chime in and say the government shouldn't have to pay for septic tanks. It's not that they won't pay for it so much as it is they cannot afford to pay for it.

I think it's great and every jail and prison in the country should do this
