Insurance companies don't have to pay for ice and water per city code if the insurance policy excludes code upgrade. Yes the roof has to be installed per city code, however if the policy states code upgrade is not covered then the insurance company won't pay for it, it will be the customers responsibility to pay for the code upgrade.

Great video! AllState is definitely horrible to deal with, but in my experience here in SW Missouri, Joplin....the adjuster for American Family that works the 100 mile area is the absolute worst! This guy is off the chain with his denials and allegations against contractors! I've had people ask me to inspect their roof, "American Family is you're insurance? I'll pass, there are other companies that may want to help you."

Good info, but a little off on your ice shield. Insurance companies will install ice shield if not present, but only if law and ordinance coverage is included in the policy. If law and ordinance coverage is not included, insurance companies are not obligated to pay to install ice and water shield. Most policies do include law and ordinance, but not all. Insurance companies can not reimburse if no coverage exists.
