Oh my God. I love her enthusiasm. She just seems so excited to talk about her passion for fish.

"That sounded inauthentic--I am actually curious!"
Hank, the most self aware and genuine YouTuber

I need more of "one neurodivergent guy and one scientist exchanging cool facts for 15 minutes straight". Straight into my veins please.

I love scishow, always have and probably always will, but the sheer excitement and unabashed joy I felt watching this video of two nerds nerding out and exchanging cool facts was very reminiscent of how I felt as a young teenager who had just begun understanding english getting all excited and binging through early scishow almost 15 years ago.

You got yourself a good scientist. Careful to word things so as not to misinform, and excited when presented with something now to her in her field. Not defensive, and no intellectual arrogance.

BEST. GUEST. EVER. I want to talk about fish with her all day

This is just like Wired, but more relaxed and somehow I think it’s so much cooler.

This was such a great episode! The back and forth between you two, the facts, the nerding out over new facts, you're just like the rest of us. Thanks Hank and Jaida and the entire SciShow team! Well done!! 💜

Some additional stuff idk:

Most greenland sharks are blind, but not for the reason you think - theres actually a type of parasitic copepod that is attached to most greenland sharks eyes, blinding them. Not too much of an issue since they live in relatively deep waters.

Theres also a video floating around that might show whale sharks making noise but its very sus and theres a lot of discussion around its legitimacy

The smallest shark is actually a lantern shark, the dwarf lantern shark with a max length of 20 cm (thanks octonauts for teaching me this when i was like 5)

Fish noises can get very loud - one of the loudest is the Danionella Cererbrum which is only 12mm long, but makes noises up to 140 decibels*, which is roughly as loud as a gunshot or firework. The Plainfin Midshipman of San Fransisco can be heard from land quite regularly too

Jaida retains the child-like enthusiasm for knowledge. So charming. They have a great future in science education.

I’m currently the only person in the world making documentaries about Australia’s freshwater fish and the fish in Australia are particularly amazing and soo visually undocumented in the wild.
This video was great I hope to see more fish videos on scishow!

Jaida Elcock is fantastic! She always has SO much info to impart, so I am over the moon that this partnership is happening. The people unfamiliar with her are truly in for a real treat! <3

I had the question of “what is a fish” on a university exam. My answer, if I remember correctly was a long the line of : “ A craniate animal that usually has scales, gills, and a backbone. A fish usually spends most or all of its life in water.” I got a full marks for my response.

I do the same thing as Hank here, where I often obscure my mouth as a way of telling myself to not talk over someone despite my eagerness to state something.

This was fun and Jaida has *great* energy! A hearty

Jaida lights up the world, even without bioluminescence (except in the infra-red). What a gem of a person to find for Sci-Show!

The enthusiasm from both is amazing. I love them dropping cool aquatic facts on each other and their reactions

Love the respect Hank has for Jaida despite being extremely knowledgeable in his own right. Always deferring to the experts and trying to learn is exactly why he is where he is. Such a joy to see someone love learning.

Jaida and Hank feeding off each other's chaotic nerd energy is such a wholesome thing to see.
