Most Common Travel Mistake To Avoid for Aurora Borealis Northern Lights

I see this so often and people can get very upset when their expectations do not get met. If you aren't interested in Iceland's other activities in winter, do not go there JUST for the Northern Lights also known as Aurora Borealis. If you want a better chance of seeing the Northern Lights, travel to Fairbanks, Alaska between mid-August to mid-April.

I’d rather go to Kiruna/Abisko, Sweden. Even higher probability. I was there for only two nights. First night was arrival night and I saw them from my hotel room and second night I went up the hotel’s ski lift to their view point. I not only saw green lights but also saw red ones which are rarer.

I saw them in Iceland when I went. They were still so beautiful. Nature has so much to offer and we need to preserve it before it’s all gone.

Good for those who have US visa, for those who have Schengen Visa, Finland, Norway and Iceland is their best option

Can you make a video on what to avoid when going to Fairbanks Alaska to watch the northern lights? I am overwhelmed with all the hotels and data on the internet that is not reliable

Fairbanks was my home for 12 years - great lights shows - but be prepared to stand in -35 temps a good deal of the time, or get some huge skylights installed in your roof

I saw incredible lights in Iceland. It's just a matter of luck...

if you want the highest chance to see the northern lights, the 2 best locations are both in finland, kittilä and inari. if you want a beautiful place to explore with a good chance of seeing the lights, any of the areas in the lofoten islands of norway will do well. if you got to finland though, prepare for extreme cold. norway is cold too but not nearly to that level

Didn't see them in Alaska but saw them several times with the naked eye in Iceland and Norway.

I live in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) and we get them here from time to time! I haven't been able to see it yet since you gotta find the right spot (and time) with less light pollution; but people have seen it in the urban areas here!

We went to Fairbanks to see Northern Lights last week for 3 nights and all we saw was clouds with naked eye. With camera and long exposure saw a few lights, but definitely not the same with own eyeballs.

I just visited Iceland last week and saw them on 3 out of 4 nights :)

Is that because it’s less cloudy in Alaska?
