The biggest mistake I ever made while traveling?? Not checking in properly on a code sharing flight and getting booted to standby!

Hubby and I booked an international flight with a connection, and the 2nd flight was operated by a partner airline. We got boarding passes for the 1st, and the 2nd one just had said see agent for seating. This wasn't a huge red flag as it's happened before on code shared flights.

We landed in our layover with 3 hours to kill, so chilled in the lounge before casually strolling to the gate about 30 minutes before boarding time to get new boarding passes with a seat assignment, when we were told we never checked in for the flight!

Apparently, we were supposed to get off the 1st flight & go back to check in, not go straight through via connections. And since check-in had already closed, we were bumped to the standby list! They had already given our seats away (which was within their policy if the passengers hadn't checked in! Luckily, we made it on the flight, but that was the last of the day, so it would have been a disaster!

Here are a few of the most common mistakes people make when traveling!

Ignoring travel insurance: It's important to have adequate travel insurance to protect against unexpected events like medical emergencies or trip cancellations.

Not staying connected: Not having a way to communicate or access maps while abroad can make navigation and emergencies challenging. Don't assume your phone will work reliably - get a sim or e sim if your phone supports it

Not having the right travel documents: Make sure your passport, visa, and any required permits are up to date and in order before your trip. Even if you have a US passport, there are still a lot of places that require a visa!
