BLACK BEAR PASS SWITCHBACKS IN MY TUNDRA, San Juan Mountains, CO, 10/2022

Navigating the tightest Black Bear switchback in my Tundra. Wheel placement and good spotters are key. I have many years of off-roading and rock crawling in my truck and this particular mountain switchback was the tightest, thus far. Had to do a multi-point turn. Love this type of off-roading.

I’ve done this in a Tacoma extended cab. Was a little dicey!

Bear pass. There are some great videos to watch, the red jeep rolling down, or the hail storm from hell, waterfalls across the road

Nice. To all the people complaining about full size rigs doing this why the hate? It took a extra minute to back up a couple extra times whats wrong with that? Ill give that minute and extra reverse or 2 anyday to have more room and be comfortable any day. I drive a full size rig because i have a family dog and stay in the mountains months at a time. No way i could do what i do on a little jeep or midsize truck. To each there own i just find it funny most the small rigs you see these days complaining about full size rigs but stick there tires way out and add stuff all over the roof, back and sides of there rides making it every bit as big and even more top heavy.

Some of the comments are pretty funny. I drove my Jeep Cherokee down that road 20+ years ago. It’s exhilarating. The view is spectacular. The idea that there’s a risk that’s somehow not worth it - why would you snow ski, or water ski, or rock climb, or para-sail, or sky dive, or race a car, or any number of other recreational activities? Because it’s fun, that’s why. I don’t want to sit in my safe little bubble my whole life (like my parents do).

Bet he's wishing he had chosen the 2 door Wrangler for that trip!

I'll give you a thumbs up for that. That was a tight switchback. I'm taking my 24 tundra to the ice track on George town lake sunday. just bare rubber.

Makes bronco II's, sidekicks, jeeps, 2 door monteros, samurais, and all the other small 4x4/awd trucks and suv's out there look like a heck of lot better of a deal...

Damn, that's nerve racking especially for the truck that size. I'd be scared shitless.

Slow and steady may not win the race, but it keep you alive. Good job on the turn.

Broncos have separate emergency brakes on open rear end. Two hand brakes right or left wheels. Lock and drag the inside wheel.

Sorry, but the angle of entry made by the driver made the maneuver much more difficult.

Somewhat of a tough trail not a good place to bring a pick up truck with all the switchbacks. Would you do eight point turns?
