You can turn the display OFF (plastic piece won't lift) by having the ignition ON and pressing the middle of the 5 buttons at the left of the steering wheel - the one marked with HUD - right under the vent on the left end of the dash. You are welcome.

why is the heads up display a poor quality piece of plastic when this could be projected to the windscreen like other cars.
we went to try one of these cars and this quality put me off.
