Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's first official state visit to the US will be geared toward expanding technological and defense cooperation with the US, as both countries attempt to face China's expansion in the Indo-pacific region and beyond.

Modi will hold formal talks with President Biden at the Oval Office on Thursday, followed by a press conference where both leaders are expected to take questions, a rare occurrence for the Indian prime minister. He has not addressed a single press conference in India since taking office. In May 2019 he did attend a press conference but never took questions. He is also scheduled to address a joint meeting of Congress. Representatives Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez all said they will boycott the address due to the erosion of religious and political rights in India. Later in the evening, Modi will be invited to a state dinner at the White House.

I think DW should bring in guests who have more profound knowledge of India and Indian strategic thinking than a western bot like Sumit Ganguly, no one in India calls him in their programs to discuss India's direction in policy or on other matters(strategic, economic). I think Modi has caliberated India -US relationship in a manner that while it is beneficial to both, it doesn't make India sub-servant to them like Europe is right now. Why else would you (European nations) keep fighting America's wars.

As Greeck, I'm happy to see India and the West to have closer ties. It was always my hope that the largest democracy with the strongest Democracy and the creators of Democracy to be closer. Having the Indian world view as part of the cooperation of democracies will be beneficial.

As an minority living in India with huge population there would have been minor human rights or religious persecution but it is better than any part of the world and india will always strive to be an independent major power and would not like to be lectured or dictated in our relationship with Russia which is strong for decades and will never be a vassal state like western countries and will never become like ukraine to counter China in USA proxy war
