My boss used to have a regional manager that came unannounced on visits, plainclothes while he walked and talked with staff and customers. That made our manager nervous but respectful to us employees, because the regional manager used to talk to us employees like we were friends and if we had anything we wanted to say and we could talk in private if we wanted to.
