The Real Reason We Believe In God 😱

David recently took part in an Israel debate with Miriam Margolyes and wrote a great book called Jews Don't Count about anti-semitism (as argued on late night with seth meyers and Good Morning Britain relating to Whoopi Goldberg's comments).

I love this!!! So true. I'm in my early 40's and just found out I have breast cancer, a restriction in my Aorta and kidney disease (because of my heart) I am an atheist and I know that all of this is fixable, but it is the first time I admitted to myself that I'm not impenetrable. Seeing me, you would never know I have any of it. God can be an absent concept, and you can still find ways to distract you from the reality of death.

Thank goodness that was just an opinion. Baddiel has never felt God’s presence and that’s his own problem.

Love it! This is exactly how I feel, it’s good to hear someone explaining it like this 👌

I was terrified of death as a child, obsessed about losing my parents and such. At 16 my best friend was killed, and l went from being terrified of death to thinking it was the saddest thing, and grieved a lot. At 51, l do not worry at all about death. It simply is a part of life. It’s not a terrible thing, it just is. Only the living suffer the thought of death. Why waste the time we have living thinking about not living.

I agree with him. People are too scared to actually see that life really is that simple. I think life happens just because the conditions are right. Just like the correct amount of water, soil and sunlight are the ideal conditions for the seed to germinate and grow. I want to believe in God and 'the spirit', but I simply can't come to that conclusion with what I observe. The song 'The Rose' just came to mind. It's that simple to me. Cheers.

Well I might suggest that life IS a journey and does have meaning. You derive meaning from being self determined to plan the journey, decide the destination and navigate the route. The chaotic atoms in motion are just a collective vehicle for travelling that path. Having a higher power decide your destination and route could only undermine your will to obtain meaning of your own accord. Either way you're still travelling in a vehicle made of chaotic atoms. Only you can decide who's in the drivers seat.

I do think about god way more now since turning 40 but my thoughts are directed to why it makes little sense for anyone to believe at any age.

Ever think about talking to a religious person? There are some good ones out there. Someone like Dennis Prager or Bishop Barron, or that blind priest, (spritzer, I think ?) whether I agree with them or not, can be very thought provoking. Maybe some of your viewers would know of someone?

So my accountability to God after death is a distraction from death?

I totally disagree with him! God still loves this fellow. I am glad I understand God! ❤️
