1:53 My apartment building has that system too. It's against fires, and deploys when the fire alarm goes off to prevent people from going into the elevators during a fire. The curtain is motorized, so it can pack itself back up once the fire alarm is over. It also rolls itself up partially if you touch the yellow rectangle in the center to allow people to exit the elevators. The building suffering a power outage could have accidentally triggered it. I haven't seen one deploy from a fully stoved state, but I'd guess it uses gravity to unroll and maybe the hatch is wired to open when it stops receiving electricity. That would be the best way to ensure it deploys

Combine yolks from hard-boiled eggs with Mayonnaise (Best Foods), yellow mustard, Dijon mustard (Grey Poupon), a little bit of creamy horseradish (Beaver), and paprika - measure with your heart, add more horseradish for the extra "kick". Sprinkle paprika on top to garnish, extra stuff is superfluous.
You could also break the egg whites into chunks and mix them in with the filling for egg salad, they make for good sandwiches, too.

1:59 I actually know a lot about the curtains that block the elevators during a fire because I used to make them! These are called smoke control or smoke guard systems (and I'm pretty sure the one in the picture is actually from the company that I worked at). As the name suggests, they drop down whenever there's a fire (they're wired directly to the smoke alarm), and they prevent smoke from spreading to other floors, allowing more time for people to get out safely without having as much smoke inhalation.

There are also bigger units that are fire-rated as well, which stop the fire itself from passing through (the orange screen ones do have some fire protection, but not a much as the bigger ones). The big ones are gray and made of a fiberglass fabric material (which, yes, was awful to work with), and they are usually used for atrium lobbies and any large non-exterior bay doors.
