I'd like to complement Sam's answer on the last question:
RT stated the patent was a "defensive" patent, meaning the intent was not to seek grant, renewal or enforcement, but to avoid later patents imposing any constraints on development - to guarantee "freedom to operate".
Whether or not it was a good idea then, this would not make legal sense today -- Delivery of working code is the best possible disclosure.
