I am back from London. I attended the Ubuntu Phone Insider event and have an Ubuntu Phone I took back with me. Here is what think about the device and the OS. Help support my channel and make it possible for me to obtain devices to review.

Btw, the phone is not intended to work very well, it's a developer phone. The whole point of the phone is for developers to be able to test their applications on the phone.

I am from 2020. I just want everyone from 2014 to know that all high end phones now use gestures instead of buttons. Good job Ubuntu!

Ubuntu has to be just trolling everyone. They promise a superphone and never deliver.  Now they finally deliver a phone and it's just awful, the exact opposite of a superphone.  It's like a top of the line phone from 2011.

It reminds me of the Arubixs Portal that way.

Those headphones have probably more value than the phone itselfe ahah

Just got around to watching this and it was one of the most thorough videos on any Ubuntu phones that I've seen so far. Thanks for the post!

You know you're grown when your top 2 notifications are text to grandma and call from mom

I think it lacks what people mainly use Linux for... It's called "Terminal"

This thing is going to BOMB. Take it in writing. I dont understand why these interface developers tend to forget that a phone nowadays is an extension of your personality. Unfortunately, this OS has nothing that can separate one Ubuntu phone from another 'cept for the crappy ring lock screen. You unlock it and it takes you straight to the app drawer. Left swipe has an app bar which looks like the app bar you get on Samsung's touchwiz on long pressing back button. Down swipe is the 'Oh Jeez not again' notification pane. Seriously this OS has not one distinguishing factor in its favor. It simply has no personality!

There really is no room for misadventures like this in 2015 when the other operating systems have matured so much and offer way more intuitive experience than this left swipe/right swipe/down swipe/up swipe mess!

The phone has a lot of cool ideas, but it does have a long way to come. To be fair though if you were to look at a first generation Android device and compare it to an Android flagship device today you would never say they are from the same company. I'd say in a few more years they will be able to improve on the OS and hardware, and create a phone on par with other smartphones.

Surprised it even offers 1080p recording as it seems to struggle to play it back...
Might have been a better idea to put out an introductory Ubuntu phone with half decent specs. People will use this and end up judging the software based on the sluggish hardware. Seems to be a disappointing early effort to say the least.

Hold that fcking phone still. You have been playing whole the time. Moving and rotating it.

Canonical should be focusing on the "connect your phone to a monitor and it's a PC" model. It's an Ubuntu exclusive function and there's a whole lot of people who want that. The Atrix failed because of janky implementation but Ubuntu could actually work. But no they're going after the Firefox OS market... And they will fail because the people who bought a Fire Phone thought it was an Android and promptly either sold theirs or returned it.

Your review was absolutely excellent. People here should be grateful for the information, instead of pissing and moaning about petty details.
You rock, Erica :)

I like how your critique is neutral and practical letting the viewer to perhaps try out the subject you have reviewed.

Very unique GUI. But I personally have one gripe about it, There's no home screen. I personally like home screens because they give a centralized feeling to the OS. I would probably always feel very lost (probably even if i wasn't) when using Ubuntu Phone. I like Ubuntu and Ubuntu Phone, but as always with these new test OS's, there's still a lot of work to be done.

I was really mindfucked when she opened the lockscreen and it read 8:48PM and then I looked over to Windows' clock and it was actually 8:48PM

Apart from this little side-note / experience I had, I really enjoyed the review
