11 Super Cheap MTB Upgrades

Показать описание
Today we will review 11 of the cheapest upgrades you can make to your mountain bike. I covered 10 even cheaper ones in another video, but most of these do more to actually improve performance than those did. These upgrades are so cheap, that tires didn’t even make the cut. Enjoy!

Here’s my old video from 2016

Here’s how to bed brake pads

Here’s how to go tubeless

Colored Valve Caps

Bash Guard up to 32t

Bash Guard to to 36t

11 Speed Chain

Fancy gold titanium coated chain

Dry Lube from video
This stuff is actually expensive as frigg for a bottle, but per application it's only cents

Anti-kink Cable Ends

Tubeless MTB Sealant

Tubeless valve stems

Volume spacers
There are too many different ones to link to specifics. Please research what your air fork or can uses directly from your manufacturer.

Stealth axles are another thing which will be dependent on fork brand and width, so do your research. If you are unsure what your fork width is just look up your bike on its manufacturer's website and check the specs. When it doubt, go to your local bike shop and they might just have it!

Single Speed Chainring
For most bikes with 2 or 3 rings up front, 104mm will be the size. How many speeds you have at the rear makes no difference up front.

I’m sponsored by Diamondback Bicycles, Box Components, and Slime Tubeless, but no other products featured in this video are paid promotions.

What a great video. Before, I had to stop upgrading when I was left with 50$, now I can go until I'm flat broke. I haven't eaten in weeks.

Seth eating valve stem caps is why we have warning labels...

Pro tip: when removing the little screws on your pedals and can't get them out, take a hack saw and cut a slit in the top of the screw and use a flathead screwdriver to remove it

Edit : works on all exposed screw heads

for stuck pins cut a groove with a hacksaw or cutoff wheel (for that sketchy brake bedding tool) then use a flathead screwdriver to remove. Don't forget your safety squints...

Another tip I've found for converting to 1x is to leave the front derailleur on. If you don't have a clutch rear derailleur there's a good chance your chain will come off even with a narrow wide chainring. Leaving the front derailleur on, but removing everything else including the shifter, means you have a super cheap and functional chain guide. Just adjust the limit screws accordingly.

you know, it's been a pretty shitty few days, I went otb on a jump and broke 2 ribs, I'll be off the bike for about a month, and this video really cheered me up (especially the part where you take an angle grinder to your front tire to bed in the pads 😂), thanks seth!

Still remember going to the bike shop and asking for some dry lube for my chain and they told me it didn't exist and made me feel pretty embarassed. One of many reasons I won't go back to that bike shop ever again and why I don't like them very much anymore.

Glad you mention keeping lube away from disc brake rotors. For that reason, I recommend DRIP teflon lube over aerosols hands-down. Triflow 2oz drip bottles come with a straw to help direct lube application, but an ever better solution IMO is to get a finer metal needle lube bottle. Just throw in some old nuts and bolts to act as an agitator to get the teflon off the bottom of the bottle and in solution with a shake before applying to your bike. Look for needle lubers with a screw top and rubber cap for the needle.

Great video. I went from 3x10 to 1x11 (11-46), best thing I did. Gorilla tape for the rims is a great tip, local bike shop recommended it ! Much cheaper than paying for an overpriced rim tape.
