BMW E60 How to Replace Rear Shock Absorbers | DIY

If your BMW not driving like the crisp cornering machine it used to? It's probably time for a new set of shocks. The factory BMW shocks typically only last about 80 or 100 thousand km before they wear out and start failing. Failed, leaking or lifeless old shocks make your BMW feel unsettled, cause uneven tire wear and can even be dangerous. Your BMW's shocks are a critical part of the suspension system, and should keep your tires planted on the road. If your shocks haven't been replaced in 100 000 or 160 000 km, you are definitely due for a new set.

My lower strut bolt thru-hole won't line up with the knuckle on the vehicle, it is about 2 inches lower when the top bolts are tightened. How can I get the lower hole to line up and bolt back together? Do I need a coil compressor to shrink the spring 2 inches? The control arm doesn't want to go down any more. I went with stock struts, not sport.

Does the stock shock have a difference compared to the new one ( sport ) in lenght. Is it possible to put the sport spring on a stock shock for just lowering with oem parts ? Thank you !

Do you have to use new bolts and nuts on shocks and control arms?
