In this video the best fog performance comes from the low beams. For dust, snow, fog the fog lights should be the lowest mounted light and they need a sharp horizontal cut off. For rally some of use to use LOW mounted pencil beams aimed right down the ditches because since usually other cars have gone down the road first it can be VERY dusty. A unique application. Hood mounted lights should only be long throw lights or else you get uncontrolled light bouncing off the hood and spilling into the particulate matter.

Running a clear lens with a yellow filter IS NOT the same. A true yellow lens is much brighter. ( Also your filter will freeze is snow and block the light output) I tried doing the same setup but wound up swapping later to a true yellow lens and it's MUCH better

Fog lights aren’t effective whatsoever if they’re mounted on your pillar. Fog lights are meant to be as low as possible on your car to get closer to the road otherwise your just throwing more light into the fog thus blinding you even further

I like the effort here. But to make a real comparison you’d have to test the SS3’s that are ordered with the Yellow (selective yellow) lens vs a set ordered with the clear lens. Trust me, there is a BIG performance difference between the actual SS3 selective yellow and the lens cover. The SS3 Sport and Pro when ordered with Yellow lenses used a 4000k LED while the clear lens options use a 6000k LED. The yellow lens actually filters the UV wavelengths out of the 4000k, but if you try it on the 6000k version it will look greenish. The SS3 Max uses a darker filtered lens that will filter the 6000k LED and is not available with a 4000k LED since there isn’t one on the market.

Good effort in demo’g the differences. I agree, I think your mounting location had a lot to do with the results. I think if you installed the amber lens on a light on the bumper or forward of your hood, it would make a difference. I think the hood HIGHLY affects the results of your light output and effectiveness. Again, thanks for the video and trying.

To "cut through" the fog, you cannot shine light directly at eye level. The water droplets will act like reflectors back to you reducing visibility.

You have to shine light at the ground which then reflect up at the water droplets. This greatly reduces light reflection from the fog back to your eye. Amber or white doesn't matter much.

I would like to see the difference in tule fog. Here in California the fog gets so dense that you can’t see the lines on the road. Visibility is so bad you have to roll down the window to see, even with the wipers on visibility is 10 to 20 ft at best. I would also like to see the difference in a good snow fall. I live in the mountains, and when it starts snowing, visibility isn’t very good to put it mildly.

I've always ran a set of Amber's down low in the fog light position. I found that the amber cuts through heavy fog and snow ... I definitely don't suggest running them up high in the ditch light location .

Nice video. Thank you for the 4K video

Tbh it looks much best with just the low beams and nothing else. 😅 thanks for the video tho much appreciated

Hood mounted lights suck only reason why you should connect them to your hood is if you had a pair of lights pointing directly left or right I'm looking down to help illuminate potential obstacles without smashing them into things

I would've liked to see with just the Diode Dynamics w/o any lights. The glare you're seeing may still be coming from your headlights.

Two really great comparison videos you made while staying focused on the road. So glad I watched before jumping the gun on the Ambers. I see what you mean by the white light. Definitely looks like you can see more as a whole and less annoying to oncoming traffic vs the bright ambers.

Very bright! I recognize those roads 😂

That's exactly the problem with LED light. Halogen bulps have a almost inexistent blue part in their spectrum and has its peak far in the infra red that means visible halogen light starts to get useable in the yellow and peaks in red so a yellow lense can filter out all the blue light that is left and lets all the yellow and red light trough and therefore almost eliminate glare. White LEDs have a hughe spike at blue and about half the level from green to about amber and steeply drop in red so if you put a yellow lense on your LED lights, this blue spike simply overwhelms the yellow filter and a good portion still gets throug so you still have those unfavourable wavelenghts in your light. In order to make LEDs truly amber, you would have to filter out about 50 to 60% of the light which really isn't great at all. You then would probably be better of with a flashlight.

So if you really have to drive in heavy fog all night long, you're better off with searching for some nice halogen lights for your roof and put an amber lense over them or equip them with yellow halogen bulps, if you can find some.

Thanks for the video comparison! Can you do a video comparison of just the yellow lenses on without white light ?

You really can't do a comparison of color with one color in the ditch lights. Fog lights are meant to be low for a reason, any color in your ditch lights in the fog are going to perform horribly. Amber in your fogs would have looked a lot different in comparison.

I don't think you have a clue what heavy fog is, that's not evening the same realm.
