I've been in Service Desk for about a year and a half, completed a Cybersecurity Bootcamp program and studying for Security +. We all got this!

I graduated with a “Computer Information Systems” certificate from a college. I got no other certs, not even the CompTia ones. After applying and applying I almost gave up. A month ago, I got a call from a recruiter also and just landed a service desk technician job. I’m excited.

I'm 7 months in Help Desk and loving it. I waited 3 years after graduation and never gave up. Keep applying and studying. Thank God for Youtube where I learned so much.

Everyone’s journey into IT is so unique. Some of us get in with no certs, just knowledge and personal experience. I would say, even if you have no certs, just stay positive and keep applying to staffing agencies/entry level jobs. Mainly, keep studying and immerse your self in all things IT. You can do it!

The first job in IT is the hardest to get. The best thing you can do is a combination of formal education, certifications, and home labs. Whatever you do, once you get the first job, keep pursuing formal education, certifications, and new experiences! Help desk work, especially at a MSP, is a great way to get a lot of experience in a short amount of time.

IT takes time..I’ve moved from $10/hr contract jobs to $35K to 40K to 45K and I’m about to start making 70k in a few weeks at a new job. Our journeys are very similar in several ways..

So I'm going through a series of how people got into IT and I landed on your video. As I'm typing this I'm actually getting ready to quit my job and start from the ground up to get into IT. I'm coming from 10 years from the car industry (Inventory, Sales, Parts, etc) I did it all. I'm only commenting this so I can get back to this video and see how far IT will take me.

I'm looking into helpdesk and start from the bottom again as I'm in no financial risk at the moment when I do this change. I want to tell people it's okay to start all over if you're coming from nothing.

Thanks for the video, man. I've worked IT-adjacent (medical equipment/systems repair) the last 5 years but I started school for IT this past summer and accepted a job offer for an IT technician (help desk, hardware maintenance, etc.) yesterday. I'm worried about going from $57k/year to $50k/year but it's promising to know that my income ceiling is higher with IT than in my current career. Also, the $50k is a placeholder until the 90-day probation is up.

Thank you for sharing your experiential insights and keeping humility🤙 I'm just starting my it journey at 33yrs old with first child on the way. It does feel daunting at times the amount of information I'm taking in, but I refuse to do it any other way than giving it my all. I lost my job and decided I was tired of construction, so my wife is supporting us while I study and prep our property for sale since there is basically no IT in Hawaii 😂 Back to the mainland we go! I'm studying for my A+ first while also taking online courses specifically for it support skills. Taking a chance and will be heading across country next year to relocate to San Antonio for my new career and lower cost of living. Thanks for helping keep my inspiration burning!

I have no college degree, but my friend is in IT for years and he pushed me to study Comptia A+ send me a lot of videos to study so I can get my certification this year. I’m not a tech savvy but I am learning a little bit. He sent me he’s old laptop 💻 but still useful I used he’s laptop now and I’m watching professor Messer Compatia A+ videos. Sometimes I get tired but I keep pushing myself to study 📚 I know I will benefit this in time. Thank you everyone for sharing your journey in IT this help me a lot. 😘😘😘

Started making $19hr back in 2021 working as a cellphone repair tech… applied at 22 different IT jobs before getting a call back… finally got a call from a staffing agency offering $21 for service desk position (August 2022). They liked my interview and got hired. Was contractor for 6 months and then I was offered a full time position and pay increase to $24hr…. It def takes time but it’s a ladder. I’m currently working on Certs to see if I land a bigger role and more $$$. Good luck to you all!

I'm a wage slave in retail. I literally put my two weeks in with no plan. I hated it so much. I despise retail. Def wanna try this out. Getting into it. Starting with help desk. I'm a greenhorn in this type of profession.
