Mithraism

This video is about Mithraism, or the Cult of Mithras. It is a general
overview of this interesting yet not well known religion. It covers the origins of Mithra, describing
how it comes from Iranian worship of the Zoroastrian divinity Mithra, its prevalence in ancient Rome and the Roman Mithra. The basic structure of the
cult, specifically its different levels of initiations and rituals. It was an extremely popular religious trend prior to the rise of the Western Roman Empire and was a sort of first case for monotheistic worship
in Rome, predating its shift to Catholicism, with multiple emperors being members of the cult.
Finally, the video also includes a portion covering the iconography of the cult of Mithras and
the main myths surrounding it as they are very interesting, particularly, the bull-slaying scene and Mithras’
birth.
