@10:00 Thanks for the video. I have taught that if you have 3 negatives and subtract 2 negatives, you're left with 1 negative. Again, -17 - (-4) = -13 because you're subtracting 4 negatives from 17 negatives. This is just another way to do it. I write DMIHTINTB, "Don't make it harder than it needs to be!" The confusing part is that the same "-" symbol means negative and minus. The "+" symbol is used only for plus, never for positive.
Parentheses are used for negative numbers only after an operation symbol, e.g. -17 - (-4).
[ 4-8 ] means "positive 4 minus positive 8". Can also be stated as "positive 4 plus negative 8" [ 4+(-8) = -4 ].
[ -3-6 ] means "negative 3 minus positive 6". Can also be stated as "negative 3 plus negative 6". [ -3+(-6) = -9 ].
