The 400Z Predecessor - Nissan 300ZX (Fairlady Z32)

With the release of the Nissan 400Z this coming Tuesday, we figured what better time to look back and experience where it started with the 300ZX. Boasting the same engine concept of a 3.0 Liter turbocharged driveline, the 300ZX is where the 400Z, and all Z's in between got their roots. With a timeless road presence, and power delivery well ahead of its time, the 300ZX still commands its place on any road and in any crowd. Will the 400Z push these cars out of the market? Or will it drive the crowd back to the car that was once hailed as better than a MK4 Supra?

Man, how can a car that was on car and driver's top ten for 7 strastraight years from 90 to 96 be anything less than a legend! It was also named one of the most beautiful cars ever by both GQ and Automobile. I put on the headphones just to hear that sound.

Absolutely beautiful car and enthralling engine note. Sounds better than even a 911. Nothing from this era looks this good today. Even cooler looking than the 400z. Nissan was so stupid to throw away this masterpiece of a shape for the ugly 350 and 370. Even the interior looks really cool.

Also, this car is definitely a legend. Besides the NSX, every other Japanese car of the era used the Z32 as a benchmark.

I personally think Nissan messed up not making the 400Z just an upgrade of the 300ZX with updated motor and cockpit. The 300ZX is the ultimate drivers car, a mix of sport, comfort and sex-appeal. It is like sitting in a cockpit of a fighter jet, that centre console wraps around you and you feel like part of the car. Handles like its on rails, and yes it never fails to put a smile on your face when you drive it. The one thing I didn't like about it was that hideous front centre panel between the lights, should have made that an extension of the bonnet. Owned a 90 NA 2-seater slick-top, miss that bad boy.

Great video, I'm just commenting to say that Nissan never called the new Z the "400z". That was all rumors that were never confirmed, until a few months ago when they dropped the numbers altogether. It's just "Z"

Had my z32TT for 12 yrs now. Back then these were everywhere in bad shape. Hard to see them nowadays and price definitely reflects that. Traded my sc400+$800 on top for mine. So got it for under $6k. Now hagerty says its worth $16k+

The last true Z the 300ZX. Quality and beautiful design went downhill after the 300ZX. The 400Z sadly a horrible looking cheap design with a hybrid look of tesla, mustang, Jaguar F type.
