Scavenging feral dog packs in an urban environment still exist today.. also read about them causing problems in 18th/19th century British colonial towns and even in WW2 where they would feed off corpses and also hang around combat field hospitals where masses of medically removed body parts were piled up outside the medical tents.

Plus, they didn't have Golden Retrievers back then.

From reading Ancient Greek and Latin literature, the view on canines seems to focus more on their use as domestic animals, giving a more positive connotation to their existence, the general Semitic dislike of canines, even into the modern day, is definitely interesting.

Dogs are precious and dependant on good human behaviour. How you treat your dog can be the difference between servant/slave/enemy

The word for Dog in Hebrew is Kalev. Composed of two words KAL meaning ALL and LEV meaning HEART.

I think there is something in the name that was realized by ancient Hebrews about the loyalty of a dog.

Seems like it was just a different time. Like how if you have grandparents who grew up on a farm their view on dogs is more about their utility than as a companion. Or at least some dogs - I know one of my great uncles who was a farmer would talk about how dogs aren't inside animals, except for whatever the 'family dog' was. They had similar views on cats, and I think they even viewed cats as pests to some degree when the wild cats would breed and there were too many cats running around to be helpful vs what they provided by eating other pests. Different times, different cultural norms. I'm sure lots of people in the Bible had doggies they loved.

No garbage, dead bodies and yukky stuff strewn around, no feral dogs in village.

I imagine, with there not being professional groomers in the ancient world, dogs were kept for their work, but less often as pets, since they tended to be too dirty to enter the house. Ritual purity was pretty significant for ancient near eastern religions, and dirty animals was one way it could be lost. Even today, there's a pretty clear preference among Muslims for cats rather than dogs, in part because they clean themselves.

I saw this documentary that said, “all dogs go to heaven, ” and that’s all I need to know!

Makes sense, a lot of useful animals have very negative connotations in broader discussion. The first one that comes to mind is a cow (from an English-speaking, American perspective)

Compare the mention of dogs to soldiers. It's not about hate. It's about function. Context. Kinda like you noted really. Never mind... nothing to see here.

The Bible is an inanimate object. It can’t hate anything
