Quick update here for prospective buyers : I gotta amend my statement at the end of the video. So for the pre-release everything was working great no bugs etc. Everything was fine. HOWEVER, devs put out a couple patches this morning that torpedo'd the game. Can't get outta the prologue if you have to reset. SO : I still think the game is rad but I'd give it a week or two and see if they sort out that bug because it is a game killer. Sorry folks! Unforseen circumstances!

The concept and animation of that warp-jump is really cool. I never saw anything similar. It looks like they were flying between points in time. Time machine!

This is one of those rare gems where graphics and sound coalesce around the gameplay to create a perfect immersive atmosphere.

I adore the soundtrack. It is as if Mechanicus had a terrible baby with Lorn, it is magnificent.

I hope that what some have described as 'gameplay on the rail' is basically the "stage one tutorial" followed by a "stage two tutorial-lite" segments of the game. And that conclusion is made only because they had not reached the point at which the game opens up into a sandbox - once the recovery from the initial set of cataclysmic events is accomplished.

I say that because the idea of having a sand-box-ish game to play - once you set out on the main, unfettered, gameplay of exploration - while searching for a suitable exoplanet - excites me and I would think, many others.

Speaking for myself; I think that there are three factors which would make this gorgeous and seemingly well thought-out game a *massive* hit with gamers such as myself:

1) If the playable space beyond Sol's system is randomized, at least somewhat, each playthrough
2) a regular stream of expansion DLCs is going to come out. Each of which always adds more possibilities to that playthrough-randomization (and maybe add a greater volume of space to explore, at *least* once)
3) Ensure that the tech tree includes (or is expanded to contain) true decision gates via which the players' decisions preclude or limit the development (or full development) of other technology and also both expand to offer new gameplay options while precluding others. IMHO, this would add massive replayability via the creation of new challenges and the introduction of subtle (but significant) variations via how the player's choices affect how other tech can be used, developed, and how those choices alter the consequences of other decisions. This would create a new, randomly shifting 'maze' of possibilities via those related tech variations and consequences as the player deals with "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" found out in that semi-randomized sandbox volume of space experienced upon each new playthrough.

Please, reader:
If you appreciate what I shared about my thoughts, please *thumbs-up* this post.
Also, please consider a *reply to this post* to share what you think.
I am especially interested in what my fellow gamers think about any of the questions below...

• What do *you* think about what I shared and proposed above?
• Did I leave out something you believe is important?
• Do you believe, for your own enjoyment, that something I offered is just not needed, or worse, would turn you completely off?
• Do you think I am completely wrong about any or all of what I shared - based on your own expectations, desires, and gameplay preferences?

Thanks!

Just bought this because of your recommendation. You have great taste in games (meaning it lines up with mine really well), and I wish you continued success so you can continue to keep me gaming!

The soundtrack is done by the guy who did the WH40K:Mechanicus one. No surprise it's incredibly atmospheric

Its weirdly surreal - and I'm totally biased - but this is a solid, though fairly straight-forward premise. A bit over a decade ago, a few friends and I wrote a short story series about a scientific vessel called the Hyperion which accidentally time-traveled into a future where the Sol system is utterly wrecked. Human civilization had long-since collapsed; simultaneously going (locally) extinct while fleeing in a mass extra-solar exodus from widespread climactic and social upheaval. Vaguely recall them being accosted by xenos in the process, but that's a whole other series. The amount of parallels between our fun little project and Ixion is... Kinda nutty, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the storyline thus far. Makes me wonder what might've become of our project if we had gone forward with development.

Just played Ixion and it was AMAZING! The graphics are stunning, the gameplay is smooth and challenging, and the story is captivating. Definitely one of the best indie games I've played in a long time.

Don't know how or why, but your videoes have started popping up in my feed often, and I am happy they did.
Don't really have time to play alot of different games, but I like watching different ones.
And the genre you are playing, are some of my favorites.

Whoa! Best intentions created an engine that bodied the entire Earth! That is an interesting start to a game. Putting this on my wishlist for sure.

I really liked the speech that Delos rep gave. Very inspirational. It's really something I'd like to believe in. The big unification idea. The stars, just within our reach at last.

gotta say, one of the most difficult games I played in a long time. I managed to get quite far (without spoiling too much) and literally everything fell apart in a heartbeat. It's extremely punishing but even more rewarding when you get it on your 2nd or 3rd try. If you enjoyed Frostpunk then you will enjoy this as well.

Splattercat's first thought at seeing the ruins of earth: "I got an itch to play Parasite Eve."

Me: A man of taste I can see.
