Campfire Audio Polaris 2 IEMs Review

Campfire Audio re-designed their Polaris IEMs, and also re-turned them. But is everyone happy with the new sound? Also, how do they compare to the similarly priced FiiO FH7s?

When reviewing v-shaped IEMs, I would suggest also looking at them from the bass head/electronic music fan's point of view. While the track list you provided does have various examples of how bass would perform and sound compared to vocals, I would personally never use v-shaped IEMs for Jazz or smooth Rock etc. I would only use them for electronic music, hip-hop or heavy metal as that is the dominant reason for v-shape tuned IEMs. In light of that, while I do agree that providing a perspective to the general consumer on how they sound is good, when reviewing clearly V or U tuned headphones, I would think it necessary to also try them out with music they are specifically made for and provide feedback on that.

I’m new to the Audiophile IEM hobby but I’ve found that comply tips even out the treble on these a bit and give them an overall darker tone. I went from the Orion’s to these and they’re pretty much complete opposites!

Custom acrylic tips stole some bass from those IEMs, but made mids way better! And since i was using iBasso DX200 and considered highs a bit harsh i bought AMP9 (it's changable tube amp for iBasso DX150/200/220) later and god now they play great! No more harshness in highs, detailed mids, powerfull bass. And for first few weeks i was a bit dissapointed in Polaris V2. Those are not for clarity and details, but for rich bass and powerful sound!

For a more even tonal balance I’m going for the Sony IER-M7, although at ~$130 more.. The Cascades actually have open and balanced mids and highs even if they are also bass cannons. The prob I have with them is the headband design that creates a hot spot for me.

Do these need any amplification? I've been running them either out of my phone or my PC's front jack. They sound fine to me but I have nothing else to compare to.

Very thoughtful review. I wish you had access to the Andromeda Gold. It sits between the Solaris and the OG Andromeda. It made me stop wanting anything else. I disagree with you on the Polaris V2. I loved them for modern music, rap and EDM. The bass was amazing and the treble was great too. Yes, the mids suffered a little bit but I really liked them. But once I had the Golds they had to go. Nice rview.

@currawong what are you thiughts between FH7 and iSine10 w/cipher cable? Is FH7 sound still more clear or do you think one is better than the other between the two. I have iSine and on fence about FH7.

i am using the CA polaris 2 now for a month with an AKSR25 .. i like the bass on the IEM ..just wondering would you recommend switching the cable from a 3.5mm to a 2.5 balanced ? And how is the stock cable comparing to an upgrade cable around 150 USD for example Effect audio Ares2 or maybe an other brand for 2.5 balanced Please help me out .. Thank you !!
