FINALLY, someone who doesn’t recommend changing the water every week! The issue with stagnant water is deoxygenated water. As long as you’re topping it off every week or so, your plants will get the oxygen they need and won’t rot.

No wonder I’ve been struggling with getting my plants to root properly…thank you so much!

I change out the water when it begins to look slimy and there is a film on the inside of the container. My plans seem to be doing well, I haven't lost any leaves and there's no smell. This tip is food for thought, but I think it also depends on the plant. I might do a test on a separate plant and see what happens. 👍🏾

Thank You For being thorough in explaining things. A lot of the time people don’t explain why.

Thank you!! 🙌🏼🥰I kept messing up my water plants by dumping out all the water and washing out the vase and they wouldn’t grow roots 🤷‍♀️

Totally makes sense! I noticed that even if I’m consistent about changing the water daily for certain hard/slow to root plants, it doesn’t prevent them from rotting if they were destined to rot anyway. This year since I had some rooting hormone powder on hand, I tried adding some to my water cuttings. Not sure if it helps but it didn’t hurt and all those cuttings were successful :)

This is what I’ve been doing for years for my Moth Orchids and Pothos. They just thrive so much better without the constant, weekly water changes. I think some of it has to do with root disturbance too. Some plants don’t like to have their roots fiddled with.

Awww, thank you so much. I have bamboo plants and many others that I've been growing in water for 15 years. I rarely change the water. I just add water. I've been seeing so many plant videos lately saying to change the water weekly. I started thinking, 😆 Geeze. I've really been doing this wrong a long time. I appreciate your video and am subbing right now.

Another fun tip for anyone struggling with roots growing in water, add a pothos cutting to whatever plant you’re trying to root - they help give out this hormone, helping whatever plant along with it! ❤

So I’m not being lazy when I don’t change out the water. I’m promoting root growth. 😂 Thanks for the tip. I always heard that pothos put out root hormones but it makes sense that all plants do it but at different rates.

Thank you so much! I never understood that completely changing water when propagating thingy. Maybe it might be more esthetically pleasing but you're only flushing out out all the good stuff the plant actually needs to thrive! ❤

I think this is true for some plants. Others will rot depending on your water. I have had callused monstera albo stems rot with an air stone, so I believe it’s the type of water for some plants. My philodendron will grow tons of roots in the same type of water not being changed.

I change mine weekly otherwise mosquito’s will have babies in my plant propagations 🤣

I use the water to water my other plants when I forget to water them😪🤣 but I don’t change the water often at all and all of my cuttings are flourishing

I make my own rooting hormone liquid solution using willow cuttings. I place small willow cuttings into a large jar of water and place it in a bright but with no direct sunlight location. After a week or so roots will begin to grow and when the cuttings just begin to grow leaves l remove the cuttings and dispose of them. The remaining water is filtered using a coffee filter and the willow water makes a super medium for rooting other cuttings, especially difficult to root plants.

I've just always had funky water every couple weeks or so. Changing the water every so often definitely cuts down on algae and other gunk.
