First time I saw jewel in person was long before the tv show was begun. She told a story between songs about how her father warned her against a life in music, and told her to stay away from cowboys. She apparently ignored him on both counts. :)

Not only is this a great show, but Atz's father, Yule Kilcher, who started the homestead, filmed a lot of their daily life on the frontier. His film is in the Smithsonian, some of the only film of American pioneering's daily life that exists.

Liked Jewel from the first...I liked "Alaska: The Last Frontier" from the first and watched it every week. I never knew back then that Jewel was related, doesn't affect how much I enjoy the show but is a bonus for me now.
