You can totally black out your windows and it is easy. I have blackout film on my windows.

Freezers will get fried if they are plugged in (and i don't think people would have them just sitting there not plugged in) so I plan on buying an extra freezer (just a small chest freezer) just to have to use with my solar.

I don't think that people will go to work if they don't receive payment so who going to foreclose on your home

Ham radio of old, are the best. They had their own tower and did not use repeaters. All the new radios will still have about 12 mile range. All EMS and Police/Fire will have their own to protect. Wait for the second hit of an EMP weapon.
