Instead of throwing your electric razor away, you might be surprised how easy it is to sharpen the blades so it cuts like new again.

I just followed this. Incredible. Old blades now work better than the new blades I just ordered for my Phillips Norelco 9000. I salute you, Sir.

I have a Norelco 8240 that I’ve had for many years and sharpen like you demonstrated. I always first degrease the blades and foils by soaking in rubbing alcohol. And I make sure to keep the same blade and foil matched together. I’ve used Norelco since I was 16 years old because the first time I ever shaved my older brother let me use his. I’m now 80. I once tried a non-rotary blade shaver but hated it.

He's been using that old corded razor for years, but never bothered to take the thrift store price sticker off it. What a true gentleman. Other then that obvious embellishment this was a fine video. Newer electric razors never get a good blade back, they dull almost immediately, and will corrode faster as the coating is scraped away. Nothing like infected razor burn\bumps from a dull electric blade.

These comments are off the chain man.Great video I mean, honestly, thanks for you know, taking your time out and um showing us how to do this, but my question is, does it matter how course to sharpenstone is?Does it need to be kind of a smooth sharpening stone or what

There is a far better way... first, thoroughly clean your blades (yours were gross) then add some toothpaste to the outside of the razor blades and run for 30 seconds. Thoroughly wash the razor head and voila! Sharp blades.

I have one of those bald head shavers. Does your technique work for them, or do I do the toothpaste?

Wash everything first! I regularly blow out the fine particles with compressed air, but I de-grease everything by disassembling the head, washing it once to get the gunk off, then swirling the screens and blades in rubbing alcohol.

You must not interchange the foils with different blade they wait in together changing them will not be a good match..try to keep them matched while taking out of the head.

Well shoot, now you tell me. I have an older Norelco 7310XL that still works fine but just bought a Norelco 3800. Armed with this new knowledge I will try to sharpen the older one. Thumb up for the info. 😎

Can you make a video on how to sharpen the blades on a Tac Shaver?

Awesome! I have done this many times with the same razor you have: hq2, it does work great as the profile is entirely FLAT. The problem is that new blades hq8, hq9, sh30/52 et. al. are being designed with a convex like shaving profile, making it almost impossible to do this very same technique.

I watched a guy (Robert Veach?) YT video using plain toothpaste (silica gel) by pouring it onto the top of the blades without them being taken out, after having washed the blades with soap, and then by running the shaving machine for some seconds, blades down, on the palm of his hand to recover the polishing liquid. This seemed working perfectly fine. I do think you can do the same with diamond paste, white paste, polish, compound and EVEN BRASSO! As you are sharpening the blade against the foil it fits perfectly the curve; just be careful to not finish sharpening away the foil as it is very thin.

I've been doing this for years the only time I buy a new when the batteries go dead it won't charge

In a Norelco triple header... Always keep the blade with the same screen...

Been doing this since the 80s. My only problem is the foil wears out . I use Arkansas stone wet.
