France was one of the very few nations in Europe to have peaceful correspondence with the Mongols. They both tried to coordinate a war in the middle east against the various Caliphates, as the French believed the Great Khan, and later the Ilkhans were the mythological “Prester John” due to the number of Nestorian Chritians under Mongol rule.
