DIY | How to build a King Size Farmhouse Bed | Farmhouse Platform Bed. My wife has been wanting a Farmhouse style bed for our bedroom. After me putting it off for over a year I finally decided to go ahead and build her one to make her "Happy"! I must say I'm a little biased because I think it came out great!!

Tools needed:
Circular Saw
Drill
Sander
1 1/4 Brad nails and nailer
Pocket Hole Jig
2 1/2" Pocket screws
2" screws
3" screws
Stain
Wood Filler
Glue
Joist hangers
Tape Measure
"Patience"!!

Shopping List:
5- 1'x8'x8' Pine Board for panels
8- 1"x4"x8' Pine Board (trim for panels)
2- 4'"x4"x8' Post for legs
2- 2"x4"x8' (Top of Panels, you can use studs)
8- 2"x6"x8' (Top of headboard cap, footboard cap, and Bed frame joists)
2- 2"x10"x8' Boards for siderails of the bed
2- 4'x8' 1/2" Plywood for frame (if you do not have box springs)
12- 2"x6" Joist hangers
Stain of choice or paint
Wood glue, if you buy small bottle then you will need 3 bottles

Cut List:
*Headboard*
(10) 1"x8" @ 30" Panel Pieces
(2) 1"x3" @ 30" Sides of panels
(4) 1"x4" @ 80" Panel Trim Pieces
(2) 4"x4" @ 54" Headboard Legs
(1) 2"x4" @ 87" Bottom Header
(1) 2"x6" @ 89" Top Header

*Footboard*
(10) 1"x8" @ 15" Panels
(2) !"x3" @ 15 " Panel end pieces
(4) 1"x4" @ 80" Panel Trim Pieces
(2) 4"x4" @ 21" Legs
(1) 2"x4" @ 87" Bottom Header
(1) 2"x6" @ 89" Top Header

*Side Rails & Cross Braces/Slats*
(2) 2"x10" @ 83 1/2" Side rails
(6) 2"x6" @ 77" Cross Braces or Slats for box springs or plywood

*tip* Cut and layout all of your panel boards before cutting the headers. This will make sure you have the right length!

All of the "slats or Joists" are 16" on center. I placed the 2x10 side rails on the inside of the headboard legs flush with back of 4x4 and screwed them in with 3" screws. The side rails are mounted to the foot board with decking mounting brackets for easy removal.

Great Video! Just built it for my wife. Happy Wife, Happy Life. The only thing I did differently was replace the 1x8 panels with 1x12 and then rip them to 8 inches.

Thanks for the video. Just finished my Cali king bed last night. I used pallet wood on the head and foot boards. My head board is taller at 64 and the foot board is 40 just for that bigger bulky look. I also notched my side rails to the post. Really appreciate the shopping list. I paid around $300 for the wood.
