Amazon Diesel Heater Fail! (Read description before you comment)

Brand new heater starts promptly and generates a lot of heat, but unburned fuel (pump diesel) pumps straight through into exhaust pipe creating smoke (over priming?). Continues to dump fuel persistently into the exhaust (over-fueling) even after prolonged running, cleaning out exhaust, start/stop. No fuel leak detected but excessive heat inside of case melted the paint. Plastic tank would likely melt soon. Assembly was correct; these are really quite simple to set up. Before you comment, yes I did read the manual, and no it did not explain how to adjust ANY settings let alone pump speed, etc; it was useless. Power source was the 12V Jeep battery which has good voltage. Amazon accepted the return. Probably just got a bad one; I am open to trying another one. These heaters, clearly from the same manufacturer, are sold under several different names.
EDIT: it has been pointed out that if you enter the secret code 1688 you can access settings not described in the manual, including pump speed. Maybe that could have remedied this.

Wow! There is not much to go wrong on these things, if you get another one it'll prob be fine. People have had smoke issues after cleaning the glow plug screen and not putting it all the way back in. May have not been put in right at the factory. There is a little port that has to be unrestricted in the bore for the plug. Could be the pump is not acting as a check valve and is siphoning fuel too. I haven't heard of that happening but if the exhaust was full of fuel I would suspect that.

Just took mine apart 6 days ago beacuse hard starts and Tons of smoke. It was just a small hole plugged with carbon just below the glowplug. Cleaned it all up and high temp silicone. Starts first try and no smoke.

When i had this problem, i just cover the air inlet with hand, will start.

Anyone looking for a cheap way to run these, go to hydraulic shops (much safer stuff) and make black diesel to run in these, I’ve got the exact same model and I can heat my house for about 1$ a day, 75% waste oil (again, hydraulic oil if waaaayyyy cleaner than engine oil) and 25% petrol.

Don't let that stop you from getting another one. I've bought 5 and installed them in all kinds of situations, snowmobile trailers, work trailers garages. Mostly make them portable for tent camping on the ice. Can't beat it.

Looks like it has been over primed! Turn-it right up to number 6 burn off the excess fuel! Also check your voltage on the battery

I own these China diesel heater and heat my home with them. The smoke is usually caused by insufficient voltage to the heater. #2 diesel is more finicky than #1 heating fuel when it comes to how hot it needs to be before ignition.

That’s what happens when there’s air in the fuel. It’s important to prime it before start up

The reason for that is because the diesel leaked through the system. Happened to me when I tilted it too much. It eventually all burned off and started working normally.

Whats happening is one of teo things
1. Youre not letting go thru s complete shut down cycle
2.youre not draining the diesel out of the before storing

Thats whats causing the excess smoke during start up

I’ve seen this before. Check the backlash on your muffler bearings.

User error definitely flooded from priming they’re all the same but seem to have different manuals mine didn’t say to prime just hit the start button it will start to prime then error out you reset the brains by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery then do it again until it kicks off
