Grandaddy showed me a 1/2" steel plate, with a threaded Holes for C Clamp over the middle. Told me to bolt the plate to my block. And put a ball joint press screw in it with an impact.

I like to use a piece of wood so I don’t gouge or break stuff

Most pistons won't come out through the bottom

I just hope after you do all that work. You're not disappointed because I can guarantee that flathead's is likely gonna have some cracks in that block somewhere. Usually around the head, studs and around the valve seats.wish you good luck 👍

The panther juice we use to use was heavy dose of brake fluid with touch of diesel to free them there stuck pistons with a 48 hour soak

Thats looks like a pretty bad engine to start with, i could be wrong but with that amount of rust is it even repairible? I know those engines are old and scarce but you might wanna find a better engine with less rust. Best of luck

Good tip! But if you want to be more gentle, use a bit of flat bar. Drill a couple of holes in it so it can be slid over the top of the studs and fasten it down. Use spacers if necessary. Drill a hole in the bar central to the piston.
Tap this so as you can screw down a fastener of some sort to push the piston through. You'll need to put something on top of the piston to spread the bearing surface area. The slug will go down the hole.

I had a Pontiac 400 cu in motor do that. I got a used motor and put better parts in than OEM.

You're gonna to keep those pistons and reuse them right?

After the last video, I expected the pistons to look way worse than that. Not bad!

1/2 pint of used motor oil in each cylinder, light it on fire, when the fire goes out the piston will come out without to much abuse.

Great idea 💡 I wish that would work on a sbc

You are lucky you didn’t get injured with flying shrapnel from the cast fittings. Not meant to be hammered like that.
