That's definitely the common way, not the easiest.

And now do 3/64 + 1/32 with *exactly* this method.

I was gonna do that but there's another way

Make the bottom and top numbers in common numbers to be divisible

Lastly, you can simplify the fraction at the end if need be.

I thought you're gonna pull out a Sigma face at the end

Some people have (sin=p/h)
curly brown hair (cos=b/h)
to present beauty (tan=p/b)
And it's always in my mind... 👀

I have also been using butterfly method to solve fractions since my childhood.
The butterfly method is the standard, conventional and the most widely and easiest used method to solve the addition of fractions.

I think there is an easy way too: just look at 3 and 5 what do you think is their least common multiple? Your right 3×5=15 then as they are equal do the math of 1+4 and done it will be 1/15+4/15=5/15 but still very nice method

I guess it works but for simple fractions making the denominator the same is probably easier

Only because the LCM was equal to multiplication of both denominators

For most, That's actually the only way

ur gonna have to simplify next if it’s another equation instead of this

How would you apply that process? Where you can derived right away your answer to its simplest form in some other case.. like for example the denominators are 3 and 6?

as an asian, we use another way.

expand 1/3 and 4/5 to 5/15 and 12/15

then add the top layers, which makes 17/15.

then we convert it into a mixed fraction.

so for asians, its 1 and 2/25
