That's funny, you said at the end of the video "its up tp the tax payers". Like they have any say in what weapons will be manufactured.

Agreed as to the question: "They are going to be built" because if 'they' (your potential enemies) are building them, you will too.

When the first cruise missiles were developed they were really expensive but as time went by the cost dropped, same applies with any new weapon such as hypersonic missiles

Is it worth it? Depends on who’s district and state the money is spent in…

Use a relative few hypersonic weapons to neutralize an enemy IADS without the need to resort to a costly SEAD campaign or saturation attack and then you can get your hundreds of slower munitions and aircraft through. That's worth the price of admission alone.

Their anti-ship anti-access/area denial value is clear.

“Highly maneuverable” is a sliding scale. Nothing is fundamentally highly maneuverable beyond Mach 1, because if you change directions rapidly, you will maintain forward momentum and the Mach front will form on your control surfaces, possibly destroying them. However, there are of course different degrees of maneuverability and as speed increases maneuverability will continue to decrease. This decreases not only due to momentum but also the angle of the Mach cone, so it is a larger effect than you might anticipate. That said, ballistic missiles follow a more predictable arc, and their design is limited by the path (and gravity) to a narrower range, so in general anything flying around the surface of the earth (ground hugging or otherwise) will be more unpredictable than an object in a path terminating in a vector more normal to the surface. By this metric, any missile, hypersonic or otherwise, is “highly maneuverable” compared to a ballistic missile.

Highly maneuverable at Mach 5 plus is a myth. Hypersonic missiles become maneuverable below Mach 3 usually in glide phase. If you make a sharp turn at Mach 5 or above you're going to tumble and burn up. Ordinary missiles are far more maneuverable.

Always look forward to seeing your stuff! Great job on all of your videos

At the rate the U.S. government is spending money none of these price tags phase me anymore.

Just two words, that make hypersonic missiles desired: AIRCRAFT CARRIER

I think you’d should do a video on if the Russian government spent as much on the military as the US

Every military advancement seems pointless when faced with the fact of mutually assured destruction.

Outside of the utility of hypersonic assets, it may be important to have them so that their characteristics can be studied. To defeat them, a nation would need access to something roughly equivalent for it's studies.

"highly maneuvrable". Hello have you ever heard of physics? Moving at mach 5, a 30 g turn (which is very optimistic for these missiles) results in a turning radius of 10 km. A 10g turn would result in a turning radius of 30 km.

I used to work in tech, and the infrastructure just to develop something like these is insane: imagine how much of that money goes into “bunny suits, ” ladders, ” Lockheed labels, not to mention the testing equipment... and accountants, a zillion support staff... I guess my point is that an expensive missile may cost $X, but that’s barely the cost of the final product alone

7:00 you see the infamous hypersonic bobble head missile as it searches for its target.

Isn't the important issue for hypersonic missile anti-shipping? Meaning...China and Russia attacking US Carriers. They cost is so much less than that of a carrier. The US should develop the capability at least to allow the US Navy to develop counter systems.
