Our first look at America's HYPERSONIC HACM Missile

The U.S. Air Force just gave us a peek at its new Hypersonic Attack Cruise Missile (HACM) that's slated to enter service in 2027. This scramjet-powered cruise missile is functionally very different from the hypersonic missiles already in service around the world, so let's briefly break it down.

I'm so glad they got the message, more pointy than round. Round is not scary.

Hypersonic weapons being used in concert with stealth bombers means that an adversary can be nearly crippled in the opening hours of a conflict. This isn't the same as winning a war, but saying that the outcome of the war will be determined early.

America's military contractors and research & development teams never cease to amaze me.

There's something charming about a B52 deploying a hypersonic missile.

Love that a plane that first flew in 1954 is not only still flying (the B52), but carrying some of our most advanced tech/weaponry.

You'd think that after the development of the F-15 that Russia and China would have learned that it's best to not make America think you have better weapons than them

America that is amazing this is why they took so long to bring the hypersonic missiles because America wanted to make sure that they were accurate in hitting the target, well done America 🇺🇸

Me: *Looks at the title: meh, it's just click bait, don't care.
*Looks at the channel: Sandbox!!! Damn! This is the real deal! let's watch!

Can't wait to see the first one hanging from an F15

I tend to read over contracts every few days and the amount of contracts being awarded is great. Many great companies getting contracts to research \ develop \ test and everything all the way to active service is being done.
Everyone here in the US that works on these programs; thank you
let's ramp it up and kick this defense technology into another level

I wouldn´t be surprised if there are already weapons of these sorts ready to go. Waverider was pretty mature and it was years ago and the X-43 was almost 20 years ago.

Great videos man keep it up and make them longer

A big issue with a hypersonic missile traveling far prolong periods at low altitudes, where the air is dense, is the heat generated by hypersonic speeds. That is why many supersonic and nominally hyoersonic missiles travel at high altitude, where the air is thin, and then spend a short period near the terminal phase in low altitude.

I am curious as to whether the HACM got around the leading edge heat issue.

Your intros on all your shows are super sweet. Soundtracks rock. Well done!

That weapon system is so cool. The way it remains stealthy closing in on the target just to then strike like a Viper.

Scramjet = Keeping the pilot light lit in a supersonic hurricane. These are simple and complicated at the same time. If that works, I'd be interested in how the engine is designed, cooling, thrust management and materials used.

Cool to see one of these programs actually result in a functional missile.
