What the sanctions prevent Chelsea from doing.

Roman Abramovich has finally been sanctioned, meaning a very unclear future for Chelsea. With these sanctions however, Chelsea were given a special licence to operate still, but at a limited capacity. We’ll go over what they can and cannot do while the sanctions are imposed on Abramovich - such as a de-facto Chelsea transfer ban - and give an update to Chelsea being for sale.

Another thing I forgot to mention somehow (because I have brain rot apparently) is of course how they cannot sell tickets, and only season ticket holders can attend home matches.

In a way, the club's UCL win last season ended up being one final hurrah to their prime era this century (so far) in hindsight

The problem is when they say “why do we hold the football fans in such high regard when there are lives being lost in Ukraine” is that Manchester City and Newcastle owners are responsible for what is going on in Yemen where human lives have been lost to a greater scale and for longer then the Russian Ukraine war.
America have supplied weapons to Saudi and Abu which has impacted the wars. So why aren’t the rich American owners who undoubtedly have something to do with the politics of America be sanctioned?

Our thoughts should be with the Ukrainian people first, although what about other people in other countries. Is it because they aren’t white and European. The most likely thing isn’t that it is because our government is in bed with the Saudi, American and Abu Dhabi owners.

It is pure hypocrisy what they are doing is the only problem with all these sanctions. If other clubs were treated the same then it would not be unfair.
The fact it is only happening to Chelsea makes people believe all these NATO countries are still inherently racist because they don’t condemn other perpetrators of near enough identical crimes which have been going on for a lot longer to people who aren’t European and have darker skin. Everyone can see the hypocrisy and I haven’t seen enough people with a big enough following pointing these facts out.

I'am a West Ham fan and have no affection for Chelski.
Destroying an English institution to prove a point is pathetic, and certainly not fair to their supporters or players.
Oh! and dont worry about the Saudis at Newcastle, because they're our bestest friends. Nothing to see there, move along quietly, keep your eyes down, and don't look at them.

As a Chelsea supporter, this is a bit scary to say the least. But, I think there’s no better time to support the club. In anyway we can. Do I understand punishing players of a club for something they didn’t do (and none of them are from Russia)? No. But it’s a tough situation. I just hope we come out of this okay.

Chelsea fan here. I understand the need to sanction Abramovich because of his connections, but this situation has reached a point where it's not Abramovich who's being sanctioned anymore -- it's Chelsea. Yeah, he's gonna lose his £3bi, but he will still have his other eight billion or so and the thing is that this money is not in the UK, but probably in a tax haven because that's how super-rich people roll.

With that said, it baffles me how hypocritical the UK government is when talking about Chelsea when they, the UK, are funding Saudis who are executing 80 people in just one day. Why are they not sanctioning Newcastle, for fs sake?? Isn't it one rule for all or is the bias just too much to handle?

I'm not British (I'm actually from Brazil so I know a thing or two about unfair governments) so I probably don't understand all the intricacies, but do they really believe that by sanctioning Chelsea they are helping Ukrainians with the war? How is that even plausible?! They are directly interfering with the livelihood of British citizens who work with the most basic jobs at Chelsea, as well as national and foreign players who literally have nothing to do with politics or this war.

And talking about what Manuel said on relegation... again, this would be simply irrational. Chelsea is an institution that hasn't done anything illegal to receive such a punishment. If the club was actually promoting the war through its media or maybe directly financing it, yeah, I would completely understand this punishment, but the club simply existed during this past few weeks, having done nothing to deserve such a thing. Just leave the club alone!!

Nobody denies that Ukraine is a sovereign country but what about Irak and Afghanistan were they sovereign farms or something.

The license, or the level of sanctions on Chelsea was done in consultation with the English Premier League. The reason for the time was this license took that long to agree with the EPL

I've been a Chelsea fan most of my life, had some amazing memories watching Chelsea. I just seriously hope we can get new and decent owners if Abramovich is allowed to sell without getting any proceeds...

I have teams I follow from passed on grandparents if worse comes to worse, but fuck it won't feel the same...

For the club and for the supporters, this is scary stuff. Chelsea has been around long before Abramovich was even born. It's history and heritage have long been in existence.
Many people can agree that football clubs are more than just football clubs, they are a part of culture. And you can't just sweep that away.
I think the most sensible way would be for the British government to broker a deal to sell the club. Whether or not Abramovich gets to be a part of it, it's entirely up to speculation. That would be the best course for everyone.
All these restrictions does seem unfair to me, especially form the perspective of the club, players, the staff and the supporters.

I don't understand why a football club should be treated any different than other seized assets, such as a Yacht. You're not going to seize a yacht, and then immediately ground it and let it rot in a junkyard - you're going to give it basic maintenance and a port for it to stay in so that it maintains its value for, at the very least, profit for the government.

Chelsea should be treated the same way - create the accounts under the supervision of the UK government, and operate as normal. Sales, expenditures, and operations continue as normal, the club retains its value, and all the innocents are unaffected. The only difference is that it is now owned by the people of the UK, not a Russian oligarch.

Not a Chelsea fan, but why aren't Newcastle sanctioned for the victims of the Saudi Government?

A big reason why Britain was so slow on sanctions against Russian oligarchs is that some of them play a massive role in its economy. Especially London is pretty much owned by them. Around every corner there is a Russian shell company etc.
